Everybody wants heaven,
Nobody wants goodbye.
Everybody wants forever,
Nobody wants tonight.
We pray for wings in the morning light,
Then run from the fire when it comes alive.
Everybody wants heaven,
Nobody wants to die.
We light candles in beautiful rooms,
Talk about angels with perfume and smoke.
Say we believe in something beyond,
But panic the moment the silence gets close.
Gold crosses shining on our chest,
Fear hiding under every breath.
We ask for paradise every night,
But keep one foot outside the door.
If love is eternal,
Why are we scared of the dark?
If souls are forever,
Why do we cling to the spark?

Everybody wants forever,
Nobody wants tonight.

Scrolling through perfect lives on a screen,
Chasing a feeling money can’t keep.
Buying tomorrow, losing today,
Counting our blessings while counting our days.
Maybe the truth is painfully clear:
Heaven begins when love is sincere.
Not in the clouds, not after the fall,
But in the way we hold each other now.
I’m not afraid of heaven.
I’m afraid of leaving unfinished love.
I’m afraid of the words I never said,
The hands I never held,
The life I never lived.

So if this is all we’re given,
Let me feel it while I’m alive.
